Designed at the beginning of the nineties, the RUSTON RK215 engine was introduced as a high power to weight ratio engine and was built in 6, 8, 12 & 16 cylinder formation. They represented a departure from the usual design for RUSTON as these were the first RUSTON engines to feature underslung Crankshafts. There was eventually four versions of the engine built; 6RK215, 8RK215, 12RK215 and 16RK215.
Popular with Service Engineers due to them being easier to work on than many of the previous RUSTON engines, still mentioned to this day by our Engineers, the 6RK215 and 8RK215 engines were sold for a variety of applications including Main Engines in Tugs and other vessels, land based Power Generation, Naval Power Generation and Water Pumping Station duties. However, it was the larger 12RK215T and 16RK215T engines sold for use in Rail Traction applications where they were most successful, with large orders for both versions being received including one order for one hundred 16RK215T engines for Iranian Railways alone.
European Diesel Services are pleased to be able to offer a complete support service to operators of the RUSTON / MAN RK215 engines, with a large inventory of parts held in our own stores and a team of ex-RUSTON factory trained engineers who have worked on the RK215 engines for many years including with Rail Traction end users in the Middle East and South Asia while working for RUSTON themselves.
